Hey All,
Just joined up as the new Wings GM. I think I have a handle on this whole free agent thing (which remains to be seen), but if it's really jacked up looking, I'd appreciate any help to fix it.
Oh, and hi. I'm Kris. Looking forward to the upcoming season.

It is all up to you on how many years you want to offer a player a contract. With your current offers, Gustavsson will be a UFA after next season unless you offer him a new longer contract this year (even if it's just 2 years, you'll have him past next season). The same goes with Richardson. The only restrictions you have is that you can't offer more than 2 5-year and 2 4-year contracts this offseason. All other players can recieve 3-year/2-year/1-year offers as you deem fit. A player like Hanzal, it is common to see him offered a 1 or 2 year contract right now so that you can resign him again as an RFA (which gives you 6-7 years compared to the 4 you have left on his current contract). Hopefully this helps out a little bit. You can edit your offers if you choose to do so.

(EDIT: Doesn't need a contract here, as he'll still be an RFA at the end of the year.)

These are Simon's picks as the new GM for NASHVILLE. He's just trying to get them in as quickly as possible:
RFAs turned UFAs (from email attachment): Tomas Kopecky - same contract Maxim Lapierre - same contract (will still be RFA in two years) David Moss - same contract Dustin Friesen - same contract? (no NHL salary) Ilya Bryzgalov - 5,666,667$ for 3 years. Mike Smith - 2,000,000$ for 5 years. Andrew Joudrey - same contract Kyle Wellwood - 700,000$ for 3 years. Trent Campbell - same contract. Ryan Hollweg - no contract available - sign at old contract of 510,000 for 1 year? Jimmy Bonneau - will still be RFA next year. Derek Whitmore - will still be RFA next year. Trent Hunter - 600,000$ for 2 years. Steven Goertzen - same contract. David Liffiton - same contract. (and will still be RFA then.) Derek Smith - will still be RFA next year. Bryan Rodney - will still be RFA next year.
RFAS: Steven Stamkos - 7,500,000 for 3 years. Kyle Brodziak - 1,150,000 for 4 years. Nick Johnson - 550,000 for 2 years. Jason Bailey - release. Wes ONeill - release. Michael Ratchuk - release.

Wha?
Oh, the salaries shifted and the years of contract, but not the player ages. My goodness, that's confusing. Simon and I may have missed a player or two from the Predators, then.
Erm... Fleischmann for 3 years at 4,500,000, then.
But I would love to see a fully updated index before penalties are taken / players are let go, etcetera.

Sorry guys...I had to advance the sim to the offseason to complete the trade. Things will look a lot better once I submit the deals. Expect a mass update after the first 2 rounds tonight and I review all the offers. Nashville can edit his post if need be.

REMINDER!!! Teams CANNOT edit a post in this board unless authorized by the league office. This event occurred and shouldn't have: A player was signed to a 4-year contract and traded. GM tried to sign an additional 4-year contract after the trade. Teams trade for players based off contracts a lot of the time. It would not be right to allow teams to load up 4/5-year offers just to deal them to receive more 4/5-year contracts.

Gotcha.
I think I was assuming all of these signings were taking place at the same time (the event of the update), so there wouldn't have been any time between our posts - he couldn't have been signed to that contract because he was no longer their property.
My apologies for looking at this incorrectly.

Please let me know if I need to make any corrections. I'm not sure if we go by real age or what, but Hemsky is 29 and listed as 28 on the site so I figured I'd just leave him under RFA section.
RFAs-Turned-UFA's: Scott Hartnell 4 years, 4,200,000 Richard Petiot 3 years, 525,000
RFAs: Antti Niemi 5 years, 3,800,000 Ales Hemsky 5 years, 4,100,000 Drew Doughty 2 years, 7,000,000 Jason Demers 3 years, 1,250,000 Ladoslav Smid 2 years, 2,250,000 Theo Peckham 4 years, 1,075,000 Andrei Kostitsyn 3 years, 3,250,000 Justin Falk 3 years, 605,000 Henrik Karlsson 4 years, 862,500 Kevin Poulin 3 years, 891,666 Francis Pare 2 years, 557,500
Losing to UFA I assume: Doug Weight Dany Heatley Ethan Moreau Brad Winchester
I think that covers everybody.
