I want to start compiling a list of things all the GMs may want to happen to this league. This was a starter league for a lot of GMs in it. I don't want to stray too far from how the league has always been run, but I realize that it's lost some interest. Here are a few suggestions that I have seen or came up with already for potential changes:
1. Waiver Draft 2. Extraction (only if necessary) 3. Winner take all cash league (I realize BRHL2 is the pay league but I think that keeps attention there all season long and for future years)
An idea I, personally, want to see happen is I adopt the NHL salary cap rules from the previous season. I know a minimal cap sucks for contracts, but with the NHL cap, I would like to see these few things happen with it:
1. Only 1 RFA contract after first 3 years (would excite FA quite a bit) - the RFA contracts would have restrictions to how many 5 year contract per year and such 2. 1 or 2 Franchise players per team - although rare in the NHL, this would compensate for those teams that planned on signing their RFAs at the late age the BRHL currently has - if we have cash prize, we could charge to change franchise players - 2-year minimum commitment for franchise players 3. For RFAs and franchise players, they must have the same $ salary as their NHL equivalent 4. Remove all team loyalty for FA (since teams will have franchise players)
Again, these are just suggestions, and if we all pitch in ideas, we can come up with a great product. After all of the suggestions, I'd like to make a small committee including former commissioners in this or Bryce and Eric to see what is practical and not.

1. Waiver Draft - Only a few will participate. The most active GMs win. Inactive GMs lose. 2. Extraction (only if necessary) - It's Contraction BTW. Only if it's impossible to find GMs to populate teams. It hasn't been too difficult in the past. 3. Winner take all cash league (I realize BRHL2 is the pay league but I think that keeps attention there all season long and for future years) - Not for me please. I've never needed money to keep my interest in Sim hockey.

"Waiver Draft - Only a few will participate. The most active GMs win. Inactive GMs lose."
Good. Why should inactive GMs be rewarded? Reality is, it is much easier to tank and/or hide talent on the farm without a waiver draft. A waiver draft forces GMs to protect their best players and gives weaker teams a chance to bring in a few minor yet missing pieces.

A waiver draft forces GMs to protect their best players and gives weaker teams a chance to bring in a few minor yet missing pieces. This assumes weaker teams even care to address their weaknesses. It is my experience that very few teams actually take advantage of a waiver draft to actually improve their teams. I've run them and they end up being great for 1 or 2 GMS who don't even need the benefit of the draft but otherwise it ends up being a colossal waste of time for the commish or anyone else running it. Ultimately, I don't care if there is a draft. Well, I do care if I lose an asset I don't want to lose.

I'm all for moving the cap to reflect the nhl. Would match where we are with the draft (1 year behind). Also believe RFA / UFA rules should match nhl for ages etc.
Also I understand not show OV causes issues with the portal. Why not keep it simple and just include OV. We all know that OV doesn't mean boo for the sim and player value.

Going off the portal, I am not a fan of it. I honestly enjoyed the FHL sim and how we would e-mail in lines. Then again, I just miss the FHL completely. We aren't using the portal to its full potential anyways. This is also something I'd like to discuss during all of it. I use the regular index everyday but for my line submission.

IMO the waiver draft will only hurt the league. Inactive GM's will only make there teams shittier and then we will have a team that has no value and eventually have a team with no GM.
I really like idea of adopting NHL salaries/cap
No interest in a pay league. As previously stated I dont need cash to be interested.
As far as the portal goes. It really looks pretty but it is seldom used in BRHL but there are leagues out there where it is used often and only keeps GMs more active. I have no preference.

I'd like to see the league go back to the FHL sim instead of the STHS. All of the new bells and whistles of the STHS are great in a serious league like the BRHL2, but I think its too much for this league.
Interest is low because most of us that grew up in this league, have also grown up outside of this league and have many more important forces pulling for our time.
I could crank out a set of lines for the week in 5 minutes in the old sim, but it takes me almost 45 minutes on the new one. I'm much more likely to check things and turn in lines after working all day if I know that it wont tie up my entire evening.

Eww . . . FHL sucks. Sorry. We'd need different ratings. I doubt Bryce would be too keen to have to do a separate FHL version of the ratings.
Reverting to V1 of STHS would be the better solution but that would mean different ratings packages too.

Hi all,
I love my team and all of the prospects I've accumulated but I would be very open to the idea of doing a brand new re-draft of players. If there are GMs who are really attached to certain players, perhaps they could protect 1 player from their current roster?
I think I'm in the minority but just my 2 cents...
thanks, Ricky. Panthers.

See, THAT feels overwhelming to me. I don't want to do anything that extreme. I'm not sure I could commit to doing a complete redraft.

Waiver Draft - I am indifferent
STHS versus FHL. My interest as commish fell greatly with STHS and the portal combination and it killed me interest in doing the day to day activities. STHS has too many bells and whistles though.
Having rules that were hard to do as commish I found taxing such as suspension requests and committees. IR requests and such too.
NO to a redraft. Hells no.
More push towards facebook (free service no software to download) for trading and real time chat for negotiating over ICQ or Trillian.
No cash league.
Lower RFA age is ok but then kill the manditory UFA stuff. I'd be willing to have to negotiate steeper contracts for young stars or being able to walk away take compensation and sign my UFAS then to have to lose twice.
I never liked the severe penalty for cap violation. I've always wanted to dump it.

Excuse my ignorance, but can someone explain exactly what a waiver draft would entail?

Excuse my ignorance, but can someone explain exactly what a waiver draft would entail? BRHL2 Waiver Draft Rules: RULES 1. You can have up to 23 players on your pro roster, but you MUST be cap compliant. Of those 23 all 23 can be "protected" Those are players 24 and over. Should you want to select a player in the waiver draft, you must have room, or announce the player you are dropping when you select them. 2. Teams can ONLY have 3 players taken in the waiver draft. The only exceptions are if after 3 players you try and demote someone making more than 1.5 million or a 23 and under player who didnt play 5 AHL games. THEY WILL BE EXPOSED REGARDLESS OF THE AMONT OF PLAYERS CLAIMED. 3. All players exposed in the 3rd round, will remain on waivers until 24 hours (and the exact deadline will be announced) at which time they can be claimed. Teams may make multiple claims at that time, but will be dropped to the bottom of the priority list after their first claim. 4. There will be a roster freeze while the waiver draft occurs. You may NOT demote/promote anyone during the draft, unless it is your selection. 5. Of the 23 protected players you are allowed. no more than 21 can be skaters, no more than 3 can be goalies. 6. There is 3 rounds in the waiver draft Specifications/Examples 1. You do not need to protect players 23 and under. The only influence they have is on the amount of room on your 23 man roster. The only way they would be exposed to waiver draft is if you try and put them in minors and they either make more than 1.5 million OR they did not play 5 AHL games last NHL season. 2. If a team has 21 players on their pro roster, but only 18 need to be protected, they can claim a player in the waiver draft without exposing anyone. As long as they stay at or under 23 players on the pro roster, and 23 or fewer protected players. They CAN expose someone, or multiple someones, should they so choose. 3. A team has had 3 players selected. It is their turn in the waiver draft in round 1 or 2. They can select (or not select) a player and demote any player(s) they want who are 24 and over and making less than 1.5 million. Those player(s) will be waiver exempt (until they play 10 pro games next season). If the demote any player(s) in round 3. They will be exposed for 24 hours after, regardless of how many players they have had claimed.

All,
I have completed an altered version of the BRHL2 Rules in to a whole set of rules for the BRHL. It is based off of our current rulebook and any changes that I saw we agreed on. In yellow, I have added some new rules/suggestions. The league, I believe should transition to one that more resembles the NHL. The transition may take longer, but I expect no later than 2 years, everything should be caught up. This calls for a very busy offseason, but this year will be the best for me schedule wise anyways. Please take time to review the league rules proposal I will e-mail in minutes. If you have any questions or comments, please leave them on this message board.
Also, Eric is working on acquiring a new license for the sim, so we should be starting up as soon as I get it!
Thanks again,
Tim

For position changes can we also accept the hockey news site? I know TSN has been pretty good with listing positions but I've found the hockey news to have more listed than TSN.

Question: Will the financials side of things need to be adjusted with the new salary cap? I mean, I broke even last year as the NY Rangers, but if I'm suddenly with a cap that is 16 million higher, will our revenues be increased somewhat as well?

Also, with the new addition of allowing ECHL games played, you'll need to change this rule:
Retirees / Foreign Players 1) If a player did not play at least 1 in the NHL or AHL in the prior season, he will not receive ratings and will be ineligible for the corresponding BRHL season, regardless of if they went to Europe, retired, played strictly ECHL or were injured the whole year.

Not sure how the BRHL would include ECHL players since Bryce doesn't currently rate them.
Rules still state pro rosters can be up to 25 players. Will we be changing it from the current 23 that was imposed this season? If we're matching NHL cap, we should maintain 23 players max.
More to come as I think of it... thanks.

The place where I wanted ECHL to play was in case of waivers/farm team. In the weird case a player played 5 in ECHL/AHL combined should permit a player to play on farm team. Again, just the weird situation that could occur if player doesn't play 5 in AHL. ECHL will be added in The waivers section, too. As for 25 to 23, I copied from current rules and didn't catch everything, so I'll change that. Thanks!

With a few modifications listed above, I do not see any reason we cannot increase the salary cap to the proposed change for the rest of the season. We should see a lot of activity with the increase in cap space. Pending any complaints, I will change the cap to 59.4 million effective once I upload the new files tonight. RFA signings will start next week, again as long as there is no complaints about the new proposed RFA rules.
