The 2010-eligible Entry Draft was a turning point in the Flyers organization, as almost every conceivable pro asset was moved out for draft picks. The Flyers had ammassed 25 picks (including 10 of the first 66 picks) and were looking at a full-term rebuild from scratch.
Here is a review of how those picks went:
#1 - Taylor Hall - A franchise player and the best player in the entire draft ahead of Skinner and Seguin, Hall has amazing speed, great goal scoring ability, and the will of a champion.
#13 -Charlie Coyle - This elite American forward was dealt with Setoguchi to get Brent Burns out of Minny. A star forward with elite speed as well, Coyle is making his 2nd WJC appearance and just quit Boston College of Hockey East to go to the Saint Johns Sea Dogs of the QMJHL... apparently he was academically inelgible to continue at BC, which I actually love to see, as he has no options but to make it as a big-time hockey player and will be slotted in behind Mikko Koivu for years to come in Minnesota.
#23 - Emerson Etem - The top scorer in the WHL this season, Etem will likely be on the Ducks roster to end the 2011-2012 season after the Ducks officially get eliminated from the playoffs. Also competing in his 2nd WJC with Team USA.
#29 - Justin Faulk - An NHL already, this defenseman was sent to Team Canada to help dominate the tourney, and pushed Carolina prospect Ryan Murphy from the team. A guy with a long NHL career ahead of him.
#32 - Quinton Howden - As I have documented before, I love this guy and he may be the best of my draft class after Hall. Super smart defensively, very fast, and always going to the net where he scores very well, he is a multiple time Team Canada prospect at the WJC. Likely 2012-2013 start to NHL career.
#39 - Martin Marincin - A super-skilled, super-sized Dman out of Slovakia, Marincin has already done very well offensively in the WHL as a rookie last season and to start the year in 2011-2012. He only needs to refine his defensive zone game to get a permanent top-4 role in the NHL, as his offense and passing are too good for a 3rd pairing.
#48 - Tyler Pitlick - A tall, smooth skater whose offensive upside is still up for debate. A guy the Oilers targeted as a top 20 prospect in the 2010 draft (Watch Oil Change), Pitlick only played 1 season in the WHL before being moved to the AHL level to start the 2011-2012 season.
#60 - Ivan Telegin - A good sized, North-American styled power forward who is always crashing the net and scoring goals in close. Has played like a man possessed since Scheifele has joined the top line in Barrie.
#62 - Radko Gudas - Straight to the AHL as a 19 yr old? Good enough for me! Actually showing some offensive touch at the AHL level, and is definitely a mean, nasty SOB to play against. Look for a callup to the NHL's Lightning as soon as 2012-2013.
#66 - Tyler Bunz - A late cut for Team Canada's WJC team, Bunz has been perhaps the best goalie in the CHL up to this point. A steal for the Oilers in the 5th round of the 2010 draft.
#80 - Mark Stone - Another late-round gem, this time for the Ottawa Senators, Stone was a top WHL point scorer last season and has done the same thing this year, except now he has a Team Canada WJC team on his belt. Large body with great offensive potential.
#81 - Stephen Johns - A Notre Dame stalwart, this giant just made his 2nd straight WJC team for the USA and will play a tonne of SHTOI and against the other teams top line most nights.
#94 - Darcy Kuemper - A WHL MVP last year, this year he ripped up the ECHL to start the year and has done equally impressive things in the AHL since his callup. Look for this guy to be an NHL regular someday.
#118 - Luke Walker - Another 19 yr old straight to the AHL, Walker is more of a pest and fighter than he is a player.. Look for a long career pissing people off and making a career for himself on someone's 4th line.
#122 - Nikita Nikitin - A guy who touched the NHL last season and a body for my farm team... or so I thought.. since his trade to Columbus in the NHL, he has been averaging over 24 minutes a night and is using
his massive slapshot to get lots of points playing lots of PPTOI as well.
#124 - Tye McGinn -
#125 - Brett Perlini -
#127 - Maxim Chudinov -
#136 - Lennart Petrell - NHL
#152 - Ben Ferriero - NHL
#154 - Daniel Brodin -
#166 - David Pacan -
#184 - Spencer Bennett -
#196 - Cedrick Henley -
#212 - Arturs Kulda -
