The Anaheim Ducks draft table shocked everyone, after getting up at 4am in preparation for the draft, the entire table had fallen asleep by the time the draft begun. Even the traditional booing of the commissioner didn't even faze them as GM Gareth Evans merely grumbled and turned over in his sleep.
Luckily, the Ducks GM woke up three picks before the Ducks had their lone pick in the draft, picked up in the Stoll for Morrison deal a few days ago. With the 52nd pick, they selected Petr Straka, a relatively risky choice for the cautious GM. Petr Straka has the offensive potential to play in the top 6 of any NHL team, however, he doesn't have the size to fulfill a bottom 6 role. So Straka is a boom or bust prospect for the Ducks, either the GM will look like a genius selecting a top 6 player late in the second round or like a complete wanker for passing over Da Costa who was taken one spot after, a player already in the NHL.

On Day 2, despite a frantic attempt to trade up to draft David Desharnais ahead of his rival the Rangers, GM Gareth Evans had to admit defeat and wait until pick #139 where he drafted Aaron Volpatti as a homer pick. Volpatti has made the Canucks fourth line this year and has the speed and grit to stick with the big club for the season which would make a 5th round pick well worth the cost.
