Rumours swirling in Minnesota that the team has acquired a bonafide #1 goalie, but the price wasn't cheap.
The team is set to acquire Anti Niemi and a 4th round pick from the Colorado Avalanche, in exchange they are moving Dan Ellis as well as top prospect David Rundblad.
"It is painful to deal Rundblad, who we got gifted to us at 35th overall last year, he undoubtedly is going to be a productive NHLer. But we feel that our team is ready to take the next step and compete for the playoffs. We spent the last half of the season accumulating guys like Heatley and Kopitar. Niemi helps complete that."
With the team picking 4th overall, they are in a perfect spot to get an impact body for the longterm, to go with their stable of impressive youth already.
Looks like the days of the Wild as a cellar dweller may be over. Shuck promised a 2 year rebuild and they'd be back in the playoffs, it looks like the intent is he is keeping that promise.
