I think we're all aware that the league does need a shot in the arm going forward. Something that goes outside of rule adjustments etc..
An idea someone had mentioned to me like a year ago, that I have been kicking around, would be to go to a facebook based league.
We could have the links all setup through facebook. And have a more interactive way of posting news stores, commenting on them etc.
Obviously that would require everyone having a facebook account (of which I have for a month now). But I thought I would throw the idea out. I'd love to hear some feedback, and opinions on your thoughts.
Rather than use the portal, should we revert to emailing in lines/trades, and using a BRHL Facebook page as our home to improve the interaction of it?
Please discuss & vote.

Facebook is not evil. But whatever... I think it would make things easier but alas....

Pepsi is pretty gross.
I understand the anti-facebook camp. I was in it, but the wife made me sign up since we moved 1400 miles away
(thats right miles you insane Canucks)

fuck it, i'll vote yes.
Something needs to be done to increase activity. Its an interesting idea.
If not, there is always the "Kirk Shuck made me a low-ball trade offer" Facebook support group, which we havent done anything with yet.

What I am going to do for both leagues, since it's likely our portal days are done (and for the record I love the portal) is create a FB page for each, tie them together seperately etc. And have the default page like we used to for those that don't want to do the FB thing. Just give us a more interactive avenue to promote the league, and for people to deal together. Nothing will change for those that dont want it to, and realistically with ICQ seemingly dying (and I know I am very streaky) Facebook could be the answer to that with the messaging system it has.
In short. We will be adding that option. But it is not mandatory, nor should it change your customary simming experience.

Hmmm, that's too bad. I really like the portal too...as long as it's working properly. Another league I'm in uses it and there never really seems to be any problems, things run pretty smoothly and I think it's so much nicer to use (and more aesthetically pleasing).

Totally agree. But I have about zero tch skills, and I know its been the bane of Eric's existence with the server. People are split over whether they like, or hate the portal. I am firmly in the like camp, but......
Anywho. Once I get the FB thing up and running (this week hopefully). I am going to be checking in with MIA GM's I can understand why they are MIA, but just to get an idea how many spots to fill. I joined a league 4 months ago with the sole intention of just picking quality GMs to incorporate into the BRHL world. So I'll get some new blood in and we can roll forward.

The portal worked like ass.. but I imagine that's because of the previous host more so than anything else. Crap would always time out on me constantly when trying to upload things to it.
It could be so much better designed in the back end... it's silly that you had to upload files 1 by 1 to it.

I personally absolutely loved the portal and how organized it was for us...
if its a pain in the ass to do though, obviously we should use something else...
just a quick question, isnt there a newer version of STHS that we are going to be using fairly soon and how easily could that be incorporated into a new web page?

we are using v2 for the upcoming season. Its application to a webpage is no different though.
