Wanted to get a bit of a discussion going on what people would like to see to help with activity or anything in general.
Something I'd like, that is in effect in the BRHL2, is the ability to put anyone, regardless of salary, into the minors. If the player made more than 1.5 million, their entire salary would be paid.
Don't want to increase the cap, however, this would be away around in that would allow some teams to continue to tweak their team while still having to pay that player and hurt their finances.
There would have to be some rules in place for it though.
Recently signed UFA's (say during the 1st year of their contract) would be ineligible and the same rule for guys 23 and under on ELC's who didn't play in the minors would also still have to be in effect.

Doesn't the NHL have it that these higher-salary players count against the cap? Makes sense to me.
That way we're not forced to have a high-salary junk player on our main squad, but we still pay the cap price for having signed them.
I'm not sure we even need the recently-signed UFAs to be ineligible. Seems penalty enough to know you're paying good money for a player who isn't helping you.

When a team has say 90 million in cash, then it's a problem
I'm not sure what you mean by the first sentence.. only guys 35+ years on multi-year deals who get sent to the farm count against the cap. (Rolston for example would have)

I think we should have a waiver draft, like in BRHL2... hopefully that can spur some early season activity.

I thought about that as well.. there used to be one in the BRHL but i think activity was pretty minimal. With the right mix of rules though it is useful and allows rebuilding teams to pick up some future pieces.. also adds another dimension to teams and strategy in order to not lose players.

Yeah, i like the idea of a waiver draft too.... If it's done the right way, it could help a bit with league parity, and stimulate a bit more roster/player movement....
And as for the waiver rules, using the NHL as a basis is a good idea, so formulating a rule similar would make sense....

I dont care what the waiver rule is, just as long as it is simple to follow. Pick an age and/or value and enforce it. The BRHL2 one is confusing and has a lot of stipulations on it.

bumping this for further discussion again.. proposed rule change to allow greater than 1.5 mil to go to the farm.
The full salary would be paid (not the normal 10% on the farm) but they'd be clear from the cap.

I am all for a waiver draft. I think it does add parity to the league.

I am 100% against this idea, as it will allow the storage of terrible contracts to skirt the salary cap... If a players salary is hampering someone's cap number, then they need to be bought out, just like anybody else... problem solved... *and it only hurts the teams that are below the cap from getting assets for taking on salary dumps, etc.

In the rules, any player making over $1.5 million sent to the farm in subject to waivers regardless of games played in the sim.
The way I read it, if you want to send down someone down to the farm over the $1.5 million salary limit, he will pass through waivers.
