As someone who was involved in the process of creating the *new* RFA system last season I'd like to know why it was changed, and why there was no request for input from myself or any other GM's in the process of coming up with this newer system.
I imagine that I am not the only GM surprised by the change in rules after only one season... I mean how can we plan for the future if the rules change every season? I heard very few complaints about the other *new* system myself... what was wrong with it???

I'm not quite sure how different this system really is aside from a change in qualifying (the old system with misinterpretted rules had some qualified at 100% others at 80% and even others at 90%). If you check the old rules page at www.geocities.com/brhl21/BRHLRules.html you'll find that: "When a player is restricted you are required to offer him an offer that is 110% of his previous salary." And this "updated" rules page at www.geocities.com/brhlseason5/BRHL.htmlhas: "When a player is restricted you are required to offer him an offer that is 80% of his previous salary." OH HERE!!!! It is... in a thread in board hardly ever referenced: brhlcommish.proboards19.com/index.cgi?board=history&action=display&thread=1105931840Basically what Bryce and I have outlined is more detailed than these three points. And besides, I do not believe we even followed those rules this past offseason. I gave Dallas a 2nd rounder as compensation for signing RFA Vasicek as per the rule book, we never did go to committee for it. I'd much prefer the NHL style of draft pick compensation. It gives that much more incentive to the GM to sign his own RFA or lose him for what could amount to a coin toss. We can likely blame the confusion on Eric disappearing for a while coupled with myself (a new co-commish) taking over his duties... as well as some delays in getting responses to trying to sign RFAs... as well as it being in a thread rather than the rule book itself and discussed back in December of 2004.

Thanks for the explanations...
I do like the revisions actually, I feel like FA will run a little smoother now!
