OK, the Rules are out, now a few tips and advise bits from the commish.
As you will note all teams have an individual link to display their current RFA's, when a trade happens I will try and move em over, but ultimately, it is the GMs responsibility to ensure that their RFA's get signed. If you deal for a RFA it would be advisable to post under your individual team here that you have acquired him, so I can update your list.
Yes we are starting signing after only a month of NHL play. the reasoning is that you only have a limited time before the trade deadline to move someone that you are not able to sign. You will have roughly 1 week after the cup finals to finalize RFA, but it is obviously advisable to move someone now and get a good return if you are not going to be able to resign them.
Couple of quick suggestions as a GM not as a commish........If your guy is off to a slow start in NHL and you think he will breakout, sign him early while his value is low. If your guy is off to a hot start and you think he will really fade, wait for awhile to bring his market value down.
As a commish again.....Not a ton of stock is going to be placed on the beginning of the NHL season, its one month anything can still happen, hey the Penguins may win a game this season.
If you are looking to throw a feeler out their and shoot really low, go ahead at your own risk, but if someone sends me an offer like this
Joe Blow 1.2 million for 3 years.....your just wasting your first of 3 offers.....Why does he deserve that much? What other comparable players make that amount?
I will not do your research for you, if you submit something like the above offer, i'll probably reply as Joe Blow 2.4 million for 1 year with no explanation. Then on your 2nd offer your basically starting the process from scratch and will only get 1 counteroffer, so be smart about it.
November 1st I will begin accepting RFA offers, I will stay on top of them, hopefully within 2 days at the latest, except in early December when I am gone for 2 weeks. bnshuck@yahoo.com is where to send em.
