Looks good so far... only head scratcher for me is Martin Biron at $6M... I'd have argued that for the previous two seasons he's only played 35 games per season... I'd have negotiated for a a 1 year deal at a reduced salary to see if he can repeat.... and he's still be RFA next year .. But that's my style.

Thats emery's qualifying offer meaning that he will be open for offers in UFA but since the team qualified him they have the right to match. Biron on the other hand is signed, sealed, and delivered.

Biron's contract was the end result of him being with in one year of being UFA and as such would want a nice contract to bridge past that date as well as adding on an extra year his asking price went up.
As for Emery, I am not to satisfied with the end result of the negotiations (though I have not spoken to either Chris nor Jordan about it yet). Given his games played, age, potential, and pending rating even for a one year deal $500k is pretty small. I thnik too much stock was put into the sv% slot placing Emery in the wrong category of goalie I'd expect him to be in (strong back up / splitduty). So if he were to be $900k to $2M range even for a one year deal... I'd have expected around $700k to $800k.... I will be speaking to both Jordan and Chris regarding this settlement.

Good point I forgot about that however our qualifying offers are -10% of current salary. So it seems that $500k is not a qualifier but a signing...

I think the 500k is a typo, the rules page still says 100% for qualifying and hasn't been updated to reflect the new RFA system. Anyone in the "qualified" threads get's 90% of old contract as a qualifier but teams are free to bid on him in RFA with his owning team either getting to match or get compensation...

I read the rules page as 100% for a qualifying offer too. It was intended to be a qualifying offer only so that he could test the FA market. The asking price for his services was set too high IMO and I was prepared to match any offers on him or take compensation if his price got too silly. It's all water under the bridge now. Emery just signed a new deal last night.

Would a guy who played in Europe last year need a new contract to be kept in a team's system or would he just automatically go to the euro list?
ie. J.P Vigier.

Euro retiree regardless of FA status. We can put in a clause in the rules stating that Euro returnees that are 31 years or older will only sign a 1 year deal with the the club that owns their rights thereby becoming UFA the following season - if not returning to Europe or retiring. Might make it easier to keep track of would be BRHL UFAs who fled to Europe.

It's fine the way it is I think... but don't care much either way...
Next questions: For a player who is only qualified and thus tests the RFA market: 1. If someone offers said player a contract offer, the owning team has the option to match or recieve compensation correct? Do they match at 90% or 100% of the outsider offer? 2. If no one offers said player a contract, then what happens? Does he re-sign for one year at his QO (90% of this current salary)? Can the owning team re-negotiate a longer term deal with said player? Does he hold out?

Under the Restricted Free Agent rule
6. i) Singing bonuses are allowed however are restricted to the formula as already laid out in the BRHL rules. Incentives will also be considered, however they are NON TRANSFERABLE. If a player with an incentive clause for whatever achievement is dealt, the SIGNING TEAM is responsible for the payout of moneys owed to the player. This enables league statisticians to easily track which player is owed which bonuses at seasons end; and prevents general managers from washing their hands of their own financial miscalculations.

Yeah, I saw that after posting this... but those rules are out of date... For some reason I was quite sure we were not allowed bonuses for RFA's... I guess we'll have to wait for someone to rule on this one...

Ah, yes. That was something I meant to address.
With the guide in place I did NOT want to go ahead with signing bonuses as it sort of defeats the purpose of the guide and the process of placing players in appropriate categories.
