I don't think it's all that amazing of a feat to predict outcomes when you have a sim engine and mock seasons

FINE THEN!!!!
although no two seasons are the same and i took into account some GM skill in moving their team up where they probably will finish, (or in Kirks case moving him down)

Well, of course... but, you failed to move my team into the playoffs, where they'll end of this year. You just watch!

The East is SOOOO deep. that right now I think Atlanta is the only team that has a slim chance of making the playoffs, and the way Martin is turning that franchise around, that could change. I think every team in the East will get at least 70 points, which is pretty damn good.
Then their is you pansies out in the west, where 2 or 3 playoff teams wouldnt make it in the East.

you also fail to realize that if a certain gm has his team doing that badly, the team may mysteriously not play so well to improve there draft position

Well, I was going to do this as an article but Bryce beat me to the punch....here are my predictions for this coming season.
Art Ross Trophy Winner: Mike Modano (Edmonton Oilers); Runner Up: Peter Forsberg (Tampa Bay Lightning) Edmonton has the most potent offense in the league, and it's most probable that one of the top six will get this award...either Modano or Fedorov. Expect Forsberg and Kovalev from another very skilled line to contend.
Rocket Richard Trophy Winner: Milan Hejduk (Detroit Red Wings); Runner Up: Marian Hossa (Ottawa Senators) Both players are exceptionally gifted at scoring goals. Edmonton, New Jersey and Tampa all have players that could reach the top of the heap, but these two don't have super offensive teammates to contend with and both have gifted playmaking linemates.
Bobby Orr Award Winner: Al MacInnis (Toronto Maple Leafs); Runner Up: Nicklas Lidstrom (St. Louis Blues) Two of the best in the league will take away from the pack. There are others who are gifted and will likely come close but one of these two should walk away with most points.
Jennings Trophy Winner: Marty Turco (Tampa Bay Lightning); Runner Up: Nikolai Khabibulin (Edmonton Oilers) Both Tampa and Edmonton are strong puck handling teams that aren't likely to make bad giveaways. It also helps that both teams are strong defensively. But this award will be given to the goalies, which I should mention: both teams have impressive netminders.
President's Trophy Winner: Edmonton Oilers; Runner Up: Philadelphia Flyers This may seem a little biased, but there should be little question about the depth of the Oilers team and the weakness that comes from playing in their division. The east will be a dogfight for the top between Philly, Toronto and Tampa. Philly should grab the conference on the closing days of the season.
Other Division Winners Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs Toronto already being mentioned, that leaves one division left. With the overall weakness of the western conference: only 4 teams really standing out...Detroit and St. Louis both have capable teams, it's more or less gut instinct that I feel Detroit will win.
Western Playoff Teams (in order of finish) Edmonton, Detroit, Colorado, St. Louis, San Jose, Dallas Calgary, Los Angeles Close but no cigar: Nashville, Anaheim, Columbus The top four in the west being mentioned...what about the first round opponents? San Jose and Dallas' teams have lost substantial players this past off season, however the depth of both teams should carry them into the 5th and 6th spaces respectively. Calgary and Los Angeles will get their first taste of the postseason. Calgary has significantly improved his team this past offseason and Los Angeles should squeak in. Anaheim's defence is too weak, and will be a hinderance all season long. Nashville's team is somewhat topsy-turvy at the moment, and seems that there is little chemistry. The Jackets will get a chance, but it probably won't be this season, as another star player or two will be needed for a playoff run.
Eastern Playoff Teams (in order of finish) Philadelphia, Toronto, Tampa, NY Islanders, NY Rangers, New Jersey, Montreal, Ottawa Close but no cigar: Florida, Carolina After the top two in the conference, it's really up in the air as to who makes the playoffs. Since the Rangers got a solid goalie, their team has shot up the charts. The other New York team (barring a major rearrangement with the new GM) should also get a spot. New Jersey's team will go far in the playoffs, but will not have a good season run, as many players are good at missing 20 games a season. Montreal, Ottawa, Florida and Carolina should all be within 4 points for the last two Eastern spots.
Stanley Cup Runner Up New Jersey Devils The East could have virtually any team that makes the playoffs represent them, but expect the Devils to come out on top. While it's definitely possible that in either case, a lower seed makes the playoffs, this is all about what should happen more often than not. The Devils have probably the deepest team in the East, and while Toronto, Tampa, and Philadelphia all have strong teams...expect the Swamp to get it's representation.
Stanley Cup Winner[/i][/u] Edmonton Oilers While the West is the weaker conference...both Colorado and my choice as cup champion would be highly competitive in the East as well. Detroit and my true longshot Calgary, both have exceptional chances as well...the only problem is that only one will get out of the first round. Again though, I'm selecting the team with the most depth. Edmonton can run a couple lines of offensive strength, while most teams can only counter with one defensive line. Edmonton's team durability is high, and has BRHL players bolstering its farm team in the event injuries come around. Unless Edmonton loses a whole line of significant players, the BRHL will revisit the 80's.
