I figure since we have this here, this might be a good place to share our musical knowledge and recommend songs for everyone else to DL.
Here are some of my recomendations: 1. Mattafix - Big City Life song is pretty popular in Europe right now. Has a slow deep bass beat, smooth electronic/R&Bmix. Vocals are a reggae/electropop mix.
2. Snow Patrol - Run Radiohead/Blur influenced song by British Rockers Snow Patrol. Very smooth and easy to listen to rock with a solid lead vocalist, who sings in a very British Style but is not quite as whinny as most (sounds like a knock but I love the style of the whiny British Bands - early Coldplay, Radiohead, Travis, The Motorhomes.)
3. Sonata Arctica - Dont Say a Word Orchestra style Metal Band from Finland (a leading producer of Metal Children of Bodom, Nightwish, are also highly recommended). Heavy, fast sound with a awesome lead vocalist. If you dont like too heavy you may still like them as they are still very shy of the harder thrash and death metals.
4. Ben Harper and Jack Johnson - High Tide or Low Tide (Live Bob Marley Cover) Fucking sweet cover. The way these two strong vocalists harmonize in parts is fucking mind blowing. Johnson takes the lead with Harper the perfect wingman. Mostly Acoustic with what sounds like some kind of rattles in the background at parts.
5. The Mars Volta - The Widow Well anything by Volta is sweet, but this is one of my favourites. One of the most progressive bands that I have heard with a 10% combination of British, Hispanic (they are Latino) and elevator music (lol) influence and 90% pure creation. The use of distortion by Volta is amazing, the distortion creates and unique sound and it becomes as if the guitar is a whole new instrument. Otjher Mars Volta songs I suggest Televators, Intertiatic, Concertina.

I won't provide a wide array, but definitely some interesting tracks to check out:
1) Mindphaser - Front Line Assembly (CD: Tactical Neural Implant) FLA is fronted by Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber - the same guys who front pop/dance group Delerium and who started up Skinny Puppy in the 80's. And have fronted other bands in just about all forms of electronic/industrial./dance music in between. Rather haunting first line "Jesus had days like this" really sets up the rest of the track. Difficult to define this group on a whole...I've heard "bio-industrial" used to describe. If you like the track, check out this album and the album, Epitaph.
2) Sick - Utah Saints (CD: Two) Another great dark electronic track. If you played through Wipeout Fusion for PS2 you might have come across a toned down version of this track. (I think you might get the idea if you ever played a Wipeout game, what kind of track this is). Check out as well Future Sound of London's CD Dead Cities (especially the tracks Dead Cities and We Have Explosive).
3) Pistolero - Juno Reactor (CD: Shango) One of the best matched up movie scenes and music was this track in the chase scene in Once Upon A Time In Mexico. Juno Reactor is another diverse dark electronic band. Very difficult to pin down a music definition as each album is rather different in ambiance. Mostly high speed electronic. (Saw Juno Reactor play in Toronto on Canada Day a few years ago...incredible experience)
4) Wonders of You - Andy Hunter (CD: Exodus) I'm on a speed kick right now...Hunter has gained notoriety for his tracks that have appeared in the two Need for Speed Underground games. This track appeared on the first game (and ironically enough, that's how I came across him). More mellow for electronic, but still fast paced. Also check out his other CD, Life and DJ Fluke's CD's Risotto and Puppy.
5) Nursery Rhyme - UNKLE and Badly Drawn Boy (CD: Psyence Fiction) James Lavelle and DJ Shadow released this CD and this is digital music at it's finest. Just about every track on the album shows a slightly different side. Other tracks like Lonely Soul (with Richard Ashcroft), The Knock (Drums of Death Part 2) (with Mike D.) and Rabbit In Your Headlights (with Thom Yorke) have all appeared elsewhere in other iterations, but this album on a whole shows the best of the best. There is no comparison. You may not like one track, but you may like the rest of the album...it's definitely got something for everyone.
OVERTIME!) Particle Man - They Might Be Giants Put up with the annoyance for less than 2 minutes, and it'll grow on you.

1) Mindphaser - Front Line Assembly (CD: Tactical Neural Implant) Funny, though not a huge Delerium fan or Sarah McLauchlan fan, I loved the collaboration they did for Brokedown Palace. I can listen to this, not neccessarily something I would seek out.
Verdict: Probably delete, but might change my mind after a few more listens.
2) Sick - Utah Saints (CD: Two) I like this. If I ever went to Raves, dropped Extacy, and kissed random chicks this song would probably make me wanna do it all over again. But since I was a few years past when the rave phase hit E-town I never did that.
verdict: Keep
3) Pistolero - Juno Reactor (CD: Shango)-This is a good track. Cool how they mix the electronic with the traditional mexican strings.
verdict-Keep
4) Wonders of You - Andy Hunter - This is aiight. The rapping to the techno makes it seem a little mid-90s, but the instumentals are pretty solid. The backgroupnd lyrics being electric does bring it forward a few years though.
Verdict: Keep.
5) Nursery Rhyme - UNKLE and Badly Drawn Boy (CD: Psyence Fiction) - Cant seem to find it. Will try again, but the sources I find wont DL.
Verdict: None
OVERTIME) Particle Man - They Might Be Giants- HAve to admit it is kind of catchy in a very annoying kind of way. Would be VERY EMBARASSED if I was at a light with the window rolled down and had this playing though. cnat say I like it enough to be taking up space on my HD though.
verdict: Delete-but my DL it again for kicks if Im having people over for a night of debauchery.
Feel free to praise of bash anything I put up. Everybody has different taste and thats what makes music great. I personally have a vary diverse taste in music and appreciate all types of musical efforts. I rarely say anyone sucks and only include Nickelback, Gwen Stefani, and ACDC (was there ever a more over-rated band) and a few others in that category.

Might as well add my reccomendations, so Cal can grade them for me.
My first two are actually from the Tony Hawk American Wasteland game. A game that has probably the best soundtrack of any game.
1. Frank Black - Los Angeles Former lead singer/songwriter of The Pixies writes a catchy hook for a chorus in this adventerous song.
2. An Endless Sporadic - Sun of Pearl This song is completely instrumental, but it is very good. It takes a melodic scale that seems to be prominent in hardcore metal right now, but takes it changes it's key and makes it sound a bit more punk-ish.
3. The Bloodhound Gang - Pennsylvania A wierdly written and performed song about the state of Pennsylvania. It's a catchy song off of their latest CD, Hefty Fine.
4. Trivium - A Gunshot To The Head of Trepidation Trivium is one of the brightest up and coming acts in metal today. It's oldest member is only 23, and they have already earned respect from most of the who's who in music. A Gunshot To The Head of Trepidation, is a extremely melodic song that touches on all bases.
5. Mastadon - Blood and Thunder A band that has been riding a great wave of success from touring on Ozzfest last year. They have already earned acclaim as possibly a second coming of Metallica, Megadeath or even Slayer. This song relies on it's addicting guitar work, that starts the song off on the right foot.
6. SoShy - The Way I A song that isn't like anything else on this list, it's a bit more Pop-oriented. Done by a female singer, it's quite good.
7. Reveille - Farewell Fix A song that is about 4 years old, but from a band that broke up 2 years ago. One of my favorites, this song is more of a ballad by them. I guess you could call it, "more radio friendly" if I had to put it into words.
8. Bleeding Through - Line in the Sand Bleeding Through's latest CD, The Truth, was heralded by the Alternative Press Magazine as the most important CD of 2006. A hardcore band, by trade, they soften it up on this song to bring an addicting chorus to a deep song.
Let me know what you think.

A thread like this reminds me of my age. I don't know any of the bands and haven't ever heard any of those songs. The funnier thing is looking down the list, I didn't know which was the song and which was the band... ;D

Much agreed with Cal. I can throw out a whole mess of solid tracks by mainstream bands...but they're not as exciting as finding out stuff that you wouldn't be able to find on a Top 40 chart.

Ok. Check out these non-top40 tracks. Let me know what you think. [glow=red,2,300]'Cry For Me Sky' - Devil Driver[/glow] Heavy, thuggish, death metal. This ain't your grandpa's type of metal. Think Metallica but evil.Sample Lyric: In this life I’ve known nothing but seeds you’ve sown I’ve walked the highways and I’ve combed the side roads It’s been a joy of highs, oh the pain of lows I met the Devil at the heart of the crossroads I share a soul with a hunting hound My blood’s a red river that flows through every town No Have you ever felt like I have? [glow=red,2,300]'The Wanderer' - Manditory[/glow] -- Metallica wannabe band. I like the song though.[glow=red,2,300]'Black and Blue' - Brand New Skin[/glow] -- I affectionately call this "Hick Metal". It's thrash metal with some heavy riffs. Reminds me of an edgier Theory of a Deadman.[glow=red,2,300]'Horrorscope' - Overkill[/glow] This is an old one. Perhaps some of you guys remember it. Heavy metal again but 80s style.[glow=red,2,300]'Misogyny' - Rusty[/glow] -- ZZTOP kinda... I dunno..

That fact that you think Im "yuppy," if thats what you think, shows that you have no clue. Yeah the Mars Volta are really yuppy, too bad I cant grown my hair long and get in my Trans Am and listen to the great period of music called 80's metal. But you still didnt say who are yuppies, you said "these two" yet Eric, Clint, and I had already posted. Plus I have only ever entered entered a coffee shop about 4-5 times in my life....to use the bathroom and once to buy a cookie. Or were you refferring to Ben Harper or Jack Johnson? Fine if you think that, we all have different taste, but it is a sweet cover IMO. Really it comes down to not understanding a word of what you said in this thread, because you have only given half thoughts, pick a thought and go with it. Honeslty I dont know how to respond becasue you dont actually say anything, but imply lots. Say something.

23 and havent heard of any of em,,,, although I listen to country :-) Man, I think the only thing we have in common is that we both love the Oilers and both have wives that should be playing in the All-Star game while we should both be toiling away in the minors...........especially you, least Id be a star in the minors you goon. BTW me, you and George should get together at Shanks for one of these stretch drive games.
