Those are remarkably stupid salaries. Sami Salo must feel like a chump for reupping with Vancouver for $3M a season. $6.3M a season for Timmonen is very poor. I've been beginning to feel that some of the BRHL GMs would be better at being a REAL GM than some of the current NHL GMs.

I have no doubt in my mind some BRHLs would be better GM's it is incredible how teams can be that stupid, though from Nashville's persepctive getting a 1st for 2 players they wouldnt resign is almost an FHL move.

The deal is more than "not all that bad" frm Nashvilles perspective. They get a 1st round pick for two players they were going to lose anyway for nothing. Sweet jebus thats a nice move for them.
for the Philly side it is a what if. They garanteed they got the guys they wanted, but at what cost? It works for them because they got two impact players, but it isnt the first round pick that got them those players it is that they massively overpaid. Had these two hit the open market they may not have gotten them, they may have, we will never know so it is therefore hard to judge. But if they were offering the same massive overpayment for both (especially Timmonen) then they had a good shot. Realistically, they might have gotten them in 2-weeks without losing a 1st. Since both players signed these deals knowing they were UFAs in 2-weeks, then the Flyers were a team that would have been in the running.

Agreed. Clever move to get them. But 10.5 for them is ridiculous!! The NHL is not the BRHL. That is real money. Ed Snider is a fool for approving that!!!

I dunno how clever it is if they had to overpay. If Philly was offering that after July 1st how many teams would have matched or gotten near?

Speaking of idiots, Murray has been entered into the Sens GM Spot.
I can't believe those contracts.
Flyers made two good signings, player-wise. But their financial structure is shit.

Yea.. just because you have the cap room does not mean you have to use it all.. especially with the potential UFA crop next year.

We'll see how the BRHL GMs do in this years Free Agency as the same situation applies to our league too.
