umm your kind of missing the best player of all time. Close, and in a way you're right. These ESPN NHL Experts made probably one of the biggest oversights I can imagine. On a list of the top 50 which included Eric Lindros, this player was missed. Which is a wierd twist in proving that the missed player is one of the most underrated players in NHL history. Maybe it's because I live in the Eastern Conference area. But sometimes when the all-time greats are talked about his name isn't dropped. I think he's probably the best off-the-ice athlete and a true role model for anyone. Joe Sakic btw, Gretzky would probably be a healthy scratch on my team. I can't have a dainty player play on my top 4 lines when he'd serve me better as my teams' resident jock strap washer.

Actually, no defenceman are named in that 50 so I was disappointed I couldn't have a defence including Bobby Orr.

it was billed as the top 50 forwards. If it were players, Orr would've been included for sure.

Dainty? he may be 6'4 but there is a very fragile reason Mario only played 917 career games while Gretz played over 1400.

Gretky was the "little brother" who no one was allowed to go near, he was a figure skater with a stick.
Lemieux actually stood up for himself and got into more rough play than Gretzky did.
As far as I'm concerned, you don't trade the best player in hockey history.
Don't get me wrong, Gretzky was good. not top 12 good, but good.

Eric my friend, you sound like a complete clown . Gretzky was the best forward to ever play the game bar none.. He dominated the game at ANY level he played and did it for a VERY long time, until the day he retired. Gretzky was the one who made the game somewhat popular in the US.

Now you are proving why your team is the absolute worst in a thirty team league. Either that or just jiving some Edmontonians.

As far as I'm concerned, you don't trade the best player in hockey history. Don't get me wrong, Gretzky was good. not top 12 good, but good. You cannot possibly be serious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was a devout islander fan and hated the fact Gretz dethroned the early 80's Isles. But despite my devotion to that team I appreciated that Gretzky was a special player. He grew to be the best player ever, despite the fact he did not fight or hit that often. If Orr did not fight or hit that often he would have lasted 15-20 yrs. Lemieux did not get that involved in any real hostilities. He rarely took the body. So I cannot see how you could possibly say one thing about 99 but turn around and say that 66 got more involved. Mark my words. If Gretz can be traded, anyone can. Roy did. Crosby will if Lemieux remains the owner and UFA time comes, Cros is traded to highest bidder. No one is untradeable. just my two cents. jh sens
