www.post-gazette.com/pg/06192/704885-61.stmNot sure what the latest word on the street is with the slots license, but having a team in Hamilton would certainly screw up the Northeast division. From the jist of the article it sounds like Canada's steel city is only a sentimental longshot. It will be interesting to see how this works out . . . Does anyone know if there has been a timeframe as far as a selling date?

My first choice is for them to stay where they are. Itd be a kick in the nuts to Pens fans just as they are emerging after the lean years they have been through recently. If they cannot keep them, It would be cool if they came to Canada, Hamilton or Winnepeg.
As Western local such as Portland would be ok too, then a team such as Detroit who should be in the east anyway, could move east.

Good point. I dearly miss seeing Leafs v Wings. I think it is a serious deficiency of the new schedule.

I hope they stay here, they have a great fan base (ME!!, and I guess Ian counts too).
But if they have to move, I hope it's Las Vegas. everyother city would be a step down. and plus I'd love to follow the penguins to LV. other then that, to you other cities, hands off!

Vegas really??? What about a place like Hartford or Hamilton? Wouldn't you expect greater coverage in one of these centre as opposed to the desert? For the record, I'd like to see the Pens stay put. However, if the franchaise is moved, I'd rather see it go to a northern state or Canada. At least somewhere that there would be a pre-existing ticket base and not a half empty arena part way through a second season.

If they move, Hartford, Quebec & Winnipeg should top the list. With the new CBA these cities would be able to sustain a team. All 3 lost their teams due to greedy owners. Winnieg has a new arena, though it may be too small and both Hartford & Quebec could renos their exisiting arenas.
Do not move the team to a new market where we don't know how they will do. I can guarrentee that Winnipeg & Quebec would sell out.
But the bottom line is, Pittsburgh should stay where they are.

How can Winnipeg be considered too small when there's talk of the NHL in Hamilton? If Hamilton why not Victoria then? Shit, Kamloops has a strong hockey tradition and would draw fans from the entire Okanagen area and would likely have the same size fan base as Edmonton. I think the NHL should come back to Winnipeg and stay out of Las Vegas (already have two desert/dry climate teams - Phoenix and Dallas).
I agree that Detroit should be part of the East, but then so should Chicago, Nashville, Minnesota, and St.Louis. I think the NHL could expand into Seattle or Portland. In Seattle hockey would be 4th on the docket though behind the Mariners, Seahawks, and Sonics. In Portland it's only the up and down Trailblazers to compete with.
I still want hockey back in the 'Peg. Winnipeg Penguins makes more sense than Pittsburgh Penguins. Sorry Ian and Eric.... Philadelphia isn't too far away is it?

What i meant was the MTS Center is too small for the NHL right now, Seats just under 14,000 for the Moose, They would need to add at least another 3000 seats 1st before being considered for an NHL team. Hamilton does not need a team as they have enough trouble getting fans for their AHL team. My order of preference would be Winnipeg, Quebec, Hartford. And if they do move they will no longer be called the Penguins, A new name would be selected, More as marketing to make some $$$. Here is a question: If the team moves to either of the cities listed above and is to be renamed, What would you name the team: And you cannot use their old team name. Winnipeg: Quebec: Hartford:

it all depends on whom takes over ownership as to where they will end up. That should be narrowed down in the next week. I have been trying not to follow it closley, as there is nothing I can do and will only fustrate/infurriate me if I paid attention to the whole cluster-fuck.
The likely cities will be either Pittsburgh or Kansas City. Portland, Las Vegas, Hartofrd and up north have all been mentioned, but nothing serious.
And Ken, Philly is an 6-8 hour drive away, I would probably have to go to Columbus.
Eric, lemme know if you need a roomate where you move to, I am probably leaving the city sometime after if they move.

Las Vegas Ramblers I'll support them even if they don't move there.
I would rather get every disease and be forced to watch the wnba than live in Philly. I despise that city.
IF they do move, I'll find it hard to cheer for them. Pittsburgh or Bust.
they better not move.

haha Eric. I don't know how ANYONE could be a Philly Flyer fan in the NHL. I met one once, but that was when Tocchet was having his 30 goals 300 pims season and Hextal was doing pop commericals with Grace Jones.

www.hockeyjournal.com/nhl/Fischler%20Report/200607/20060717Fischler.htmStan Fischler is pretty funny. This came from his latest report: "Just to give you an idea how ridiculous some investors can be, there’s actually talk of one Sugar Daddy Penguins’ suitor thinking about moving the club from Pitt to Hamilton, Ontario. Hey, why not The North Pole! …" This article appeared in the New England Hockey Journal. Fischler's email addy is fischlersp@aol.com for anyone who'd like to remind him where Hamilton is compared to Maine or Minnesota.

Don't worry. With all the pollution we are generating in Hamilton and messing up the ozone, we'll soon bring the North Pole to him! SUCKER!
