Is it just me, or does it seem the NHL teams are throwing money around like they were before this lockout happened. The salary cap goes up by 5M and everyone on the team makes at least double what they did last season.
The NHL didnt do as well as the NHL is saying IMO. Didn't a lot of the smaller market US teams give a TON of tickets away this season to fill the stands?

It's humbling to watch. I think we have it more figured out than the NHL does. With free agency lowering in age every season the NHL is really creating a larger market as the players in UFA are now in the prime of their careers (27-30) rather than almost overthehill (31+). As such teams are now overpaying to retain their 24-26 year olds and are vastly overpaying to land top free agents who are 29/30 years old. With the old system, Jovo would have been a hold out RFA and we'd have traded his rights for assets to the team, now that asset is lost for nothing. What advantage does a team have in drafting players when, by the time they are effective, they are UFA (Crosby, Staal, Ovechkin, Ward aside). The NHL has just become a younger league as more and more oldtimers are passed by due to their increased salary demands and family commitments.

In our FHL world that's just downright stupid for a 5/6 dman with a smallish stature and average offensive skills.

Yeah I still don't get it... Canucks sign Willie Mitchell to a 4yr $14M deal [$3.5M per]... Same amount per season as Mattias Ohlund (whom I like better) and $2M more than Sami Salo (whom I like better too). Seems to be a LOT of money for a stay at home defenceman

Ohlund salary is a steal compared to Jovo when Ohludn is twice the Dman Jovo is. Did I ever say Im an Ohlund fan and that I hate Jovo. I may have said it once or twice. Shit with Cloutier, Bertuzzi, and Ohlund gone (the only 3 Canucks I really didnt like) I might become a Canuck fan ha Bryce would freak.
