In a move that sucks, the Penguins fired their whole coaching staff. Michel Terrian takes over. The only reason it sucks, is cause the players had no emotion to play hard this season, and it falls on the coach. Olzcyk and Mullen I think were solid coaches, but Hillier should have been fired long ago. Has had one of the worst defenses in the league for a while, and still kept his job, till now. Hopefully this has a marginal effect, as I don't know how the team will win with the injuries, and one of the worst defensive cores in the league. Only positive this season is Marc-Andre Fleury has been incredible. Facing almost 40 shots a game, and rarely giving up more than 3 goals a game. and In this NHL, thats a great stat. With this team the Penguins should be able to atleast tie some teams. But Fleury has to stand on his head for a team that sometimes doesn't show up till 2 mins left. ::wishful thinking:: sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2259535

"Michel Therrien, who led the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 21-1-2-1 start in the American Hockey League season, has been named head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins, it was announced today by General Manager Craig Patrick. Therrien replaces Eddie Olczyk, who will remain with the organization in another capacity"
You always have to wonder that the other capacity is when they fire a coach.
"Edzo, you use to be the head coach of the Penguins, but no more excuses. I wanted Vanilla scented urinal cakes, not 'new car' scented ones. You can't even clean the pisser's right. Now go and wash Crosby's car, pick up Austin Lemieux from daycare, and drive Fleury to his shrink. He still hasn't got over the world juniors fiasco"

I heard a repeated rumor that when Joe Mullen wanted to work on the Power Play with the specific players who typically are on the PP. and when he went to go and practice it, Mark Recchi responded, "It's ok Joey. We got this under control." Clearly they didn't, and I think the Veterans didn't have enough respect for Olczyk, and they cost him his job. Edzo didn't deserve it, he deserves a team that is willing to listen and buy into a system. He has potential to be a quality coach , just not here.
Therrien on the other hand is a disciplinarian, a win or die trying type coach. He is systematic, and will make the Penguins create opportunities off of good first passes, cycling and good conditioning to beat teams to the puck. It's just what the doctor ordered.
As far as the new arena goes, it will be 50/50. I think it will finally get done. If not, I will be moving somewhere else. Maybe whereever they move, possibly Wilkes-Barre (great hockey community, although it is too close to Filthadelphia) Edmonton, Las Vegas (I'd hope they'd move there), or Possibly even Minneapolis, Minn. I hate the old cooks who run this city.
