I know it is one game, but I was at Rexall last night, and my god where the Avalanche horrible.
Sakic was invisable when he wasnt going to the box, Tanguay did absolutely nothing, I seriously didn't see number 40 unless he was skating off for a line change. And other than Blake, their defensive guys were noticable but not in a good way.
If Aebischer doesn't stand on his head in the 2nd, the Oilers pile on 3 or 4 more goals and blow the Avalanche out of the water.
It was a very fast paced game, but any obstruction they did call, a minor pick in the offensive zone and bam the Avs got nailed. Staois has a shot blocked and "falls" into a guy, penalty. It looked like the teams adapted pretty well, and the game had a great flow to it.
IF the obsturction crackdown continues, the Oilers will be a very good team, lines 1-4 can skate and other than Cross, our blueline is reasonably mobile.
But man the Avalanche were horrible, their top PP was Turgeon-Brunette-Tanguay with Blake and Sakic on teh point, and they were horrible. I know Hejduk will help when he gets back, but if I were an Aves fan, I would definetely be concerned, the team looked dead and if it weren't for Iggy, they would have only had 1 goal.
BTW nice icing with your goalie pulled Breezeby

I dont agree that Sakic was invisible. He did take a lot of penalties but he is always dangerous and was able to put a scare into me a few times when he had the puck in the Ozone. I agree that they are much worse now though and have been saying so. Still with Sakic, Tanguay, Blake, Hejduk, and Aebischer, and Turgeon (I think we will see something in between his St Louis and Dallas days) they will be dangerous still and need time to gel. I do think the Oil are a better team now though. the Aves really lack depth.
I thought Wolski was one of the most dangerous Aves out there. Surprising.

well with Wolski it was as much as a shot at the Aves as it was praise for him (not to take anything away from him, he played well but on the Oilers he wouldnt have been even close to the most dangerous). The 4-3 score makes that game seem a lot closer than the game really was. The difference makers were that Aeibischer was pretty solid, Ulanov made a few mistakes that cost the Oilers and Conklin looks like he is still getting back in to his groove. He was a lot better than he was in the pre-season but lots of Oiler fans are affording him too many leniancies. He has to make the tough saves more, the ones that a goalies appears to have no chance on, he needs to stop them. All starters do, he hasnt yet which could kill the Oilers if we dont see the Conklin that backed us up here and played down the stretch and WCs of years past. But Ive always been a bigger Jussi fan and he looks like he is finally returning from injury, heres hoping he takes the bull by the horns. BTW I do have faith that Conklin will start to play better, I just have more faith that Jussi is the better goalie.
