From ESPN "Devils left wing Patrik Elias accepted the club's qualifying offer Wednesday, agreeing to a one-year deal worth $4.18 million.
The figure would put the Devils' payroll at $44.3 million, more than $5 million above the new $39 million cap.
But with Elias still recovering from [glow=red,2,300]hepititis[/glow], he is expected to start the season on the injured list. That would enable the Devils to deduct his salary from the payroll under an injury provision that requires players to miss at least 10 games."
WTF where have I been? Thats hilarious, did I just miss something or was this common knowledge? I literally spit pop all over my computer at work reading that.

Thats not the only surprise. The real shocking part is that Tommy Lee gave it to him.

He has hepatitis A which you get from contaminated food and water. It makes your really sick and is treatable but is not likely to be fatal, but at this point he is pretty much garanteed to be okay though he might not be ready for the start of the season. He probably got it from contaminated water or food in Russia.
I realise you guys are probably thinking he has Hep C like Pamela Anderson (Tommy says he doenst have it Ian, but I think that is bull since Pamela Anderson had it when they were together-supposedly from her tattoo wedding band), but if that were the case I would fail to find the humour in as it is an STD/blood transferred disease and very potentially deadly. Speaking of Tommy Lee, his show is hilarious but these stupid college girls are all over him. Sure he says he doesnt have it, but while doing an old rocker may be something to brag about to the girls it is not worth the potentielyl fatal STD.

Elias did get Hep A from being in Russia (just to make it fact, rather than a possibility). It was already proven. The recovery time from Hep A is indefinite. He may never fully recover from contracting it. He should likely be able to play hockey again, but they have to make sure that it's out of his system and that he doesn't demonstrate most of the effects. The Devils to qualify under the cap, will likely sit Elias for at least 10 games, since he does have a qualifiable injury/disease. Obviously so that Lamoriello can trade a higher salary, likely Madden (how did that guy manage to get that contract?)
