Personally...as a Leafs follower...I don't see the big deal in letting two 38 year olds leave. It's high time the Leafs did something smart and not resign guys who have both feet in the grave

You make a good point - but it's been Gary Roberts who has been laying the boots to Ottawa in the postseason on a consistent basis - him, McCauly and Belfour carried the club to Carolina a couple years back. Both of those guys are impact players when the chips are down - old or whatever, they produce and step up their game when it's go time.
Toronto has been let down by inconsistent /non existent D-man in their big games. I think that its in the backend where the problem is not with the geezers up front.

maybe the 40 year old centers saw what keenan did with another ancient center in NY. Messier was 74 years old when he won the cup there, so roberts and nieundyk are like young prospects in comparison
