The BRHL has many unique features, such as the UFA system, and teh fact that injuries and suspensions are more frequent than in most FHL leagues. With it's uniqueness comes a different approach to building a team.
Many other leagues if you have 2 stars, you're gonna do well, even if you have a group of AHLers playing alongside them, what makes the BRHL unique, in my opinion, is the importance of having depth on your squad, sure we want the superstars, but surrounding them with AHL talent will find your team out of the hunt by the allstar break, the continual powers in the league have two things in common, depth, and young guys who are capable of stepping in, while on low salaries.
While their are always glitches and upsets, one thing that generally has rung true, is the teams with good depth, who can fill holes as the occur from within, stay at the top of the BRHL heap. One just has to look to the Detroit Red Wings to see what I mean, they won the cup 2 years ago, did very well again last season, and although they are close to the cap after resigning their own guys. Then comes UFA and they are losing Steve Staios, oh well Kurt Sauer is a cheap capable alternative..If you look at their "farm team" it is loaded with potential contribuors to the depth lines this season, guys like Jordan Tootoo, Matt Bradley and Justin Papineau who can play if needed, heck they played in good parts of the last season of the Ole National League of Hockey, you remember it? Its been awhile.
Just a heads up to all the newbies coming into the league, injuries will hit, suspensions will happen, and you will need replacements, double shifting guys is gonna see them get tired quicly and subsequently injured....
Dot ignore your 3rd & 4th lines and have capable guys to fill in if needed.
