[glow=red,2,300]Little Miss Sunshine [/glow] www.imdb.com/title/tt0449059/Rated: R - Language, Sex and Drug content Length: 101 Minutes Starring: Greg Kinnear, Toni Collette, Steve Carell, Alan Arkin I had some really high trepidations when April brought this movie home - a very weak sounding title and a description of a disfunctional family unit travelling cross country to enter the youngest daughter in a pangent. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the humour it had - categorized as a comedy at Roger's Video, I say it was more a drama with comedy that was overt and subtle. Kinnear and Collette are not really notworthy and don't really stand out however Carell and Arkin steal the show - especially Arkin - playing the grandfather and his pep talk to his grandson played by Paul Dano in the van. You'll either love this movie for it's charm and subtle humour or hate it as it has too many dramatic moments. If you found Napoleon Dynamite excrutiatingly boring than you probably won't like this movie. Or at least that's what April said. It is a low budget independant movie so it has the Napoleon feal however the humour is not so much found in the awkardness of the title characters but moreso thru their experiences. April was bored with the movie, I liked it. 7.5 out of 10

[glow=red,2,300]KEN WRITES: [[ ]][/glow]
One of the best movies of the year in my books. I actually thought Kinnear was quite awesome in his portrayal of a guy that desperately wants to come up with the pyramid scheme to end all pyramid schemes and fails.
Unquestionably though Arkin and Carrell rule this film, (even though Arkin's character dies half way through.)
The only scene that didn't ring true for me was the kid (don't know the actor's name) having his freakout on the side of the road and his subsequent refusal to get back in the van. To me this was overwrought and did not ring true.
I'm going to be a little more generous here and give this one a solid 9 out of 10 and though the film image is not as crisp as a huge studio film I don't see the Napoleon Dynamite comparison too much. This film had a very real family dynamic that went beyond the faux malaise of Dynamite...which BTW I liked very much as well.

Royal Tannenbaums was a complete bore to me. Maybe it's because I just cannot stand Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson anymore. Though I shoud add I found The Life Aquatic funny.
