Scott Walker was suspended. Suspended players don't have their salaries count against the cap. Therefore, I shouldn't lose Kariya.
If I do, I'm quitting. I don't mean that as a threat, and I don't you to change your decision based on some ultimatum. But, there's a lot wrong with this league, and losing my best player impoperly will push me over the edge. I don't have time for this.

Suspended players do count against cap. It is the players who are on Injured Reserve are the players who's salaries do not count against cap. Walker was not injured, he was suspended by the Sim. Therefore his salary counts against the teams cap. Kariya's release to the UFA Marketin the upcomming offseason will stand, as due to the rules above.

It is the rule that has been enforced since the begining of the season. because I have kept an eye on it since the begining and since I took over simming.

Yeah, and that time, Bryce S told me they didn't. But, whatever, I'm done either way. I've put up with a lot of crap in this league, but this has pushed me over the edge. I'll go back to my own league and the ZBHL where the GMs are mature and the rules make sense.

even if Walker's salary didn't count he would have still been over the cap.
Walker's Salary is $1,450,000 Prior to the game WSH Salaray Committment was $44,842,500
$44,842,500 - $1,450,000 = $43,392,500
Thus he would have still been over the cap. either way Kariya's suspension stands.

A glitch in the sim is that the salary sometimes does count and sometimes it doesnt. I should have posted that up, why I didnt I dont know, I may have been away. But suspended salaries do not count against the cap.
However, Washington would have been over anyways, so in this case it is a moot point, but for future reference.....

Not to add to the media frenzy but after speaking with Eric last night regarding the matter I looked into why Washington actually went over the cap. I'll explain simply for the purpose of other GMs being aware that this can and might happen to anyone's club so be warned. When Scott Walker was suspended Washington was currently under the minimum roster requirement of 20 men. The sim does not allow a team to play without having 20 men on the roster. So it automatically calls someone up. The Sim will generally call up either the best player(well what it thinks is the best player) or the highest paid player. In Washington's case it called up Martin Lapointe and his 3.25 Million dollar salary. This put Washinton over the salary cap. Sure it is a bonehead thing for the sim to do but I am sure just as I have, you have all seen the sim do bonehead things before. I don't know how many times I've had my lines autoed or heard other people complain about lines being autoed for no reason. If another player had been called up Washington would have remained under the salary cap. The best way to avoid this is of course check your club all the times. Send in lines as often as possible. When ever you make a trade, someone gets injuried, or suspended check that you have corrected for this on your roster and in your lines. Often we get caught up with the hockey and forget to make sure our finances are in order. This league does have a cap and it does encourage fiscal responisablity so keep that in mind as you manage your club.
Again not faulting anyone just send out this public broadcast message to help GMs avoid this sort of thing in the future.
Cheers,
Mike.L

>Often we get caught up with the hockey and forget to >make sure our finances are in order.
I'd just like to comment that often we get caught up in real life and are not afforded the time to check the page daily to see how the sim screwed your team. I am not a fan of the immediete suspension. I'd rather see a large fine along with an email notification to the GM with a suspension of 5 games first and then an outright contract buyout. I've always considered the way that players get removed from rosters so soon a little too Nazi-like for my own taste.

207 days with 82 games it really is on average 2.5 real life days per your teams game. So you really don't have to check everyday. But I do agree with your point Ken. This is for fun as well so I don't think people need to spend their every waking hour montoring or thinking about their clubs. I've already made a pitch to Eric and Bryce that in future seasons(can't really change in the middle of a season) that the league get someone to monitor finances of every team to ensure they are under the cap and if they go over to give a warning before league action(player release) is taken place. Unless there is another way of monitoring team salaries. Are any of you FHL Vets familar with Dany Rocheleau's SalaryCOP? www.centericesoftware.homestead.com/I have no idea if it is any good or if it works. But it might be worth looking into, espically since it is free.

My name is Ron and I am a cap violator.
Rookie ignorance was my excuse for losing Steve Yzerman in the first quarter of the season. You certainly do get a sinking feeling when you open up the BRHL page and see your top player smiling at you under the headline "Guess who's next".
That the SIM resulted in Kariya being suspended is inexcusable. And I don't think a GM should lose his top guy because he missed a day or two. The league must decide how to deal with this, it could very well happen to any number of clubs that are running tight to the cap.
The fact that this league has lost one of its active, veteran GM's over this is . . . well it's rotten and excessive.

Man Kirk, your English skills are great, I only had to read your message 5 times to understand you. Good thing your Phys Ed mark is good so you can actually graduate.
A few points to this whole issue. And I am not taking shots at Bryce, not only does he have a cool name but he is a guy I've beenn in FHL with a long time and is one of the better GMs there is and I am sad to see him go.
1) If you want a guy to the IR he is placed there. 2) The suspended player cap thing was mixed-up in this case BUT regardless Washington was over with or without Walkers suspension. 3) If you are going to be away for a day or two their is a place to post that on the messageboard, if it is posted the acting simmer will take the nessecary precautions to keep you under. 4) Washington had 4 days off between games, giving him lots of time to send in lines, or make the nesessary callups. With no post on his whereabouts, Eric did the right thing and made the correct call in his decision. 5) While GM's may not always agree on issues, I would prefer it if they kept things alot more tactful in their arguements and make sure they do not get personal on the board, if two guys wanna have it out do it on ICQ. 6) Thanks to Cal Goulet for my new quotation at the bottom of my posts.

I am not going to post here if I plan to be away for a day or two.. that is just perposterous. That makes this place a worse environment than my actual workplace

The point is that steps can be taken to even just email the commish account to say im gone if something happens just adjust whatever nessecary. I'm not Adolf Hitler here, but is it that hard to keep up? Want the best solution DONT GET CLOSE TO THE CAP!!!!
