The overhaul of the Montreal Canadiens started off with a bang and future promise, but is tempered by some nastiness. When details of the seven player swap were released last night not everybody was pleased. The deal saw Habs stars Alfredsson and Hamrlik don jerseys for a club that currently is a direct competitor with Montreal. At press time Pittsburgh sits one point behind Montreal in the standings and three points out of a playoff berth. Montreal acquired a handful of youth in Radulov, Budaj, Badya, Foster, and Shishkanov.
However, sources say current Habs #1 goalie Chris Osgood was grossed right out by the deal. The acquistion of the young goalie Budaj and his last couple of missed starts left the goalie shaking his head. "I no longer have faith in the leadership of this organization. Why give up on two of our top guys when we're in a dogfight for a playoff spot. I know we're losing lately, but there was plenty of time to turn this ship around. I think that it's time for me to leave. I'm instructing my agent to contact teams that could use my services. My heart is no longer with this once fine organization."
Gm Ron Lewis' reaction to statements by Osgood were quite prompt. "When the deal comes, and it will, I'll help Chris pack. Until then, that man will be a pinebuster."
