The Florida Panthers, just out of the playoff race have decided to turn our focus on the future. "It's obvious we really don't have much a shot at defending the Cup successfully, so we've decided to return our focus to building for the future. We're close, but not good enough to be perennial league leaders" As a result, the team is releasing all players who are asked to attend the World Jr Championships. It is expected Russia will be asking for Ilya Kovalchuk's services, and he has been told he will be going if asked.
On the block for the Panthers include forward Mats Sundin, Craig Conroy, defenseman Richard Matvichuk and for the right prices Chris Pronger and Jason Smith.
All players can be had for the right price, except of course Luongo and Kovalchuk.
