Looking ahead, we have multiple items to cover this offseason. First, all teams that want to offer their RFAs or RFAs turned UFAs MUST have the new contracts posted on the message board by August 5th. I have given enough time for all teams to submit offers. If you don't have new contracts in by August 5th, you will only qualify your RFAs and if your older RFAs turned UFAs were on their last season, they will become free agents this offseason.
We have another opening in the league. Our GM of the Year, Chris Joyce, is stepping down as GM of the Lightning. We thank Chris for his 8+ years in the league and would gladly welcome him back if he ever chose to do so.
The hot topic in the message boards is the draft. As stated in the Draft Lottery, the first 2-3 rounds will be held live on www.twitch.tv/brhlhockey . I have already spent quite a bit of time preparing for this event to not try it this season. With that being said, the first 2 rounds of the draft will be held on August 12 at 8:00 PM EST. Sunday has been voted the best day for most GMs, so we will hold it then. If you are unable to attend the draft, please email the league with intentions (list or BPA) for the first 2 rounds. After the draft ends, the message board draft continues with round 3-7. I would prefer the draft be completed before September, however, I understand the rounds may last longer. Each GM will be given 12 hours to submit their pick. If your team is coming up, again advise the league of a list or BPA so that your pick can be made in due time. If the draft rolls into Free Agency time (hoping early September), teams will not be permitted to trade players to obtain draft picks for this draft. GMs can trade prospects/future draft picks/cash to move around after Free Agency has begun.
Aside from this year's draft, I am looking at reducing the number of draft rounds from 7 to 6 starting next season. All Compensation picks earned will then be 7th round picks. I'm hoping this will create more league activity and assistance.
Also, the RFA compensation will be changed as well for next season. As we are looking to be similar to the NHL, the compensation chart must change with it. Details will be approached later this season.
According to Bryce from BRHL2 boards, BRHL will no longer have an exclusive ratings system. We will likely be using the default ratings system from now on.
Again, important dates:
5 August - Last day to submit New RFA/RFAs turned UFA contracts
12 August - 1st/2nd rounds of BRHL Entry Draft at 8:00 PM EST.
