My thanks to Bryce who put this together (and who only let himself take two pot-shots at the depth of my prospect pool).
1. Pekka Rinne
· What else is there to say other than he is the #1 goalie on a good Predators team in the NHL. With a bright future ahead of him, he is the key cog in the Ducks future plans.
2. Kris Versteeg
· Picking up where he left off last NHL season, Versteeg is a good young scorer who has grit to his game. You can pretty much pencil him in as a second liner on the Ducks for the foreseeable future.
3. Jonathan Blum
· Blum is having a decent first professional season in Milwaukee. A good skater, Blum possesses a solid all around game, and with the way that Nashville has developed blueliners in the NHL, Blum could be a very good pro defenseman, and a vital part of the Ducks future in the BRHL.
4. Angelo Esposito
· Espo has been hurt most of the season, and had struggled a bit at the start, but he remains a high upside offensive talent. While it may take time for his game to come together, he is an important part of the Ducks future.
5. Matt Hunwick
· Playing regularily with Boston in the NHL, Hunwick has good offensive instincts and projects as an offensive top 4 defenseman. His playmaking ability is a natural fit for the powerplay and hunwick will be a key member of the Ducks next season.
6. Sergei Shirokov
· Coming over from the KHL this season, Shirokov has dazzled at times with his offensive ability. He has had a cup of tea in the NHL already, and continues to put up very strong numbers in the AHL. While it may be season 12 before he is a regular contributor for the Ducks, he should be in the lineup for a long time.
7. Blake Comeau
· Comeau appears to be flat-lining a bit as a top end prospect, but his speed and big frame mean that even if the projected offense never comes, he will likely have a role in the NHL as a depth winger. He is still young though, so he could turn it around and meet prior expectations.
8. Michael Santorelli
· A dominant AHL player, Santorelli is getting chances to produce at the NHl level, and his offensive pedigree makes you think he will. A feisty player, Santorelli has seen time on the Preds second line this season, and if things go well, he could project as a mainstay there.
9. T.J. Hensick
· A dominant AHL player, Hensick has had a few cups of coffee in the NHL, and has had mixed results. He remains a long shot to be a top line player, but could fit into a checking role with some offense on the bottom lines.
10. Yann Sauve
· One of the youngest prospects in the Ducks system, Sauve has a solid defensive game, and at 6'3, 212lbs he has a big frame to go with it. Sauve will never be confused with an offensive defenseman, but the long term projection has the Ducks hoping he could be a Robyn Regehr type at the NHL level.
11. Tommy Pyatt
· Tom shows a lot of offense in the junior ranks, but that has yet to translate into the pro game. Getting a NHL shot with the Habs this season, Pyatt plays a responsible two way game, but may be limited to that role for the future.
12. Tanner Glass
· After a strong collegiate career, Glass kicked around the minors for a few years, and now is getting an extended look at the NHL level. Not afraid to throw his body, or his fists, Glass fits into a much needed role on the Ducks as a guy who will bring size and grit to the roster. Expect him to start contributing in Anaheim next season.
13. Mike Weber
· Mike is a rock solid defensive defenseman, nothing more, nothing less. He has shown more playmaking ability this season than before, but there is no doubt, his role is to be the shutdown man against other teams skilled players.
14. Josh Hennessy
· Hennessy is another player who has little left to prove at the AHL level, but who can't seem to get it to translate to the NHL level. With age creeping up on him, time is running out for Hennessy to still be considered a prospect, and he likely will fall off the top 20 list after the next draft.
15. Christopher Bourque
· Bourque has been given ample opportunity this season to make it, and he has failed to produce anything of substance. Bourque seemingly has little to no offensive upside at the NHL level, but his speed, and tenacity should help serve him in an NHL role.
16. Jeff Frazee
· Frazee is having a good AHL season with Lowell this season, and could longterm get himself a NHL backup job. For the Ducks he provides solid goaltending depth, and could be a good role player in the future.
17. Chris Conner
· Connor has had a cup of coffee the last few seasons in the NHL, and always produces in the AHL when down. His lack of size (5'8) certainly hurts him, but he is a good offensive depth player.
18. Ryan O'Marra
· O'Marra has minimal offensive ability to speak of, but seemingly has reinvented himself this year. He is learning to be a defensive center, and could find the NHL as a 4th line checking center.
19. Kris Chucko
· A solid AHL player, who could fit in as a depth player in the future for an NHL team.
20. Taylor Ellington
· A long shot prospect, who seemingly has lost what offensive ability he displayed in junior, and who will struggle to make the NHL in the near future.
