Fuck hope and change, I would have much rather had my freedoms. America has elected a socalist (the nice word for Communist) as it's new leader, and nobody seems to mind that.
I haven't had this nasty feeling in my stomach since the Penguins traded Kovalev for Rico Fata. The feeling that you are going to be watching the thing you loved hit it's low point, and be stuck down there for 4-8 years.
Do any of you in Canada have any easy sisters? I might be in the market for a Canadien citizenship soon.

Socialist? HAHAHA. Even the most left of Democrats are far from socialist and would be still be considered right of centre in Canada and very Right Wing in Europe on the traditional political scale. On that scale communism is at the far far left. Overall if you view a much more accurate political compass Communism falls on the Authoritarian side of the scale and the far economic left. Nearly all major US politicians fall in the authoritarian side and economic right including both Obama and McCain. I dont think he will be a good president, but I was pulling for him as he is the lesser of two evils. If there was going to be any real change in the US and a new vision (one that I would have agreed with) then it would have been Ralph Nader who won. We all know he has no chance because of the 2-party system but he was the best choice IMO as someone who truly falls on the economic left and is a rarity in the US political scene as he is a Libertarian (meaning he would actually give social freedoms). Yeah he would have increased taxes the most and invested in social programs the most etc. But really is the definition of freedom based more on economic choices/freedom or personal choices and freedoms. Personally I think freedom refers more to the latter than the former. If you dont like Obama you wouldnt like Canada much either because overall we are far more leftist. Although we do have a crappy RW government right now at most they are about in line with Obama. They are RW in Canada but our scale is placed far more to the left than the American scale is. Plus I want to correct you on socialism = Communism. Thats like saying this rock in my hand is gray so all rocks are gray. Socialism covers a wide range of politicial ideologies, not just communism. Socialism refers to the economic left. Communism though is at the extreme economic left but is also very authoritarian. Most European countries are socialist but even the most leftist of countries on the economic scale (Sweden, Finland, Holland etc) are far from the extreme left and rely on free market principles, just with high taxes and high investment in social programs. It is social capitalism. Further, as I said communism is an authoritarian model of government. None of the socialist European countries are authoritarian and in fact are quite the opposite in that they are very libertarian (none more so than Holland). Its funny you talk about wanting your freedoms and imply how a vote for Obama was a vote against this. Republicans are much more authoritarian than Democrats but overall all US politicians are all authoritarian. If you want freedom, yes you should want to move but it shouldnt be because with Obama you will have less freedoms, in fact with a Democratic government you are likely to have more. With a republican government you will have had more economic freedom this is true. Democrats will decide a little more how money is spent within the economy and they are likely to increase taxes (still much less than in Canada and Europe though). However the more authoritarian a party the more they want to control personal freedoms ie. abortion, gay marriage, euthanasia or crime and punishment and while this is representative of both US parties it is even more representative of Republicans. Trust me, in the land of the free you have never had freedom compared to pretty much every other Western Country. There is a reason that 25% of the worlds imprisoned population is in jail in the US. Also, I find it interesting that in birthplace of democracy you only have two real choices. Doesn't seem like much of a democracy to me.

spoken like a true canadian who won't feel any of the effects. The US is the most politically and economically influential country in the world. The whole world feels the effects of who is in power in the US. Canada probably more so than any other. While it may not be as direct as for an American it will still have an affect.
