Looks like St. Louis has given up on this young centre who has put up decent numbers at every level he has played at (save for the show). Pohl has only played a solitary game in an NHL uniform. He was moved to Toronto for future considerations (maybe a couple of pucks and water bottles).
What does this do for my player. Nothing. He was brought over to fill a hole left on the Marlies by the newly departed Harold Druken, who got sick of waiting around for Toronto to give him a decent shot at the club. He elected to go to Europe in lieu of a two way deal which would see him making peanuts in the GTA. There's a slim chance Pohl will get a crack at the big buds, however he may get an opportunity to put up some credible AHL numbers with the Marlies. St. John's had one of the better offensive club last season compared to Worcester, Pohl's former club. So it is safe to reason that we can expect some AHL offensive growth.
After watching how Quinn runs the ship - it is highly unlikely that Pohl will see any substantial playing time in the NHL. He is way down on the totem pole and guys don't go from zeroes to heroes in in Mapleleaftown - just the other way around.

On second thought, Pohl will probably be around the BRHL a little longer because of this deal. His AHL continues and therefore he is a young capable BRHL farmhand that still has a longshot chance at making the NHL. But I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
He will continue to be a depth roster player for the BRHL Canadiens

I think for you it is worse off. In St Louis if he had a good camp he might have actually made the team. If he wasnt high on there priority list of players, it wouldnt even have mattered as long as he played well because who else are they gonna play? That team is horrible now. THey have Tkachuk, Weight, maybe a really reduced Al Mac, Jackman, Brewer, and Cajanek and then a bunch of crap, crap and more crap...........and those are the good players. In TO I dont think he has any shot.

Um...wow...obviously you never saw Christian Backman play. (Yet you listed Petr Cajanek...as non-crap). Now that is funny.

Most people are actually listing Cajanek as a top two line player in St.Louis (yes they are that bad in the NHL) which should help increase his point production which should eventually relate to a better BRHL rating.

WOW sorry I couldnt remember every fricking player on the team in a quick post. Yes Backman is good and I did forget him.......though I know I dont think he is as good as you do. If you want to know what is funny, especially about predictability, is that I thought about Backman afterwards and my very next thought after that was..........Clint is gonna respond (seemingly insulted) to this about how I forgot Backman. Plus Cajanek is non-crap. He is a good two-way Centre.

I think its hilarious that the hot topic is John freekin Pohl. Forsberg to Phillly, the Hossa-Heatley deal, nothing compared to Pohl going to the Maple Laughs.
We're all retarded

I dunno Cal, after seeing some of the talent in St.John's play and following in the local media. It seems that some guys get bogged down and forgotten about in a system - regardless how they contribute in the AHL. I'm not sure how many of these games you've seen but some guys stand out (NHL talent) but most fellas don't. That being said, some guys have a blessing in an oragniztion (Antripov) whereas some never make the cut despite their AHL efforts (a Druken for instance). I suspect Pohl was given up on in the St. Louis system. It's as a result of John Ferguson Jr's ties to St. Louis that may eventually open a door in TO. From my understanding it's more luck than talent that gets a fella into the show. . . . and maybe Pohl change of environment might translate into an opportunity. Only time will tell.

I have to agree. For guys that are likely career third/fourth liners...the AHL is full of them. It all depends on how certain guys adapt. David Ling never was given much of an opportunity in the NHL, yet always produced in the AHL/IHL. I think it's partially because he is a scoring forward. It really has to be broken down into scoring depth and defensive depth. If Pohl can show that he is a grinder, then I can see 3rd/4th line ice time. Guys like Kyle Wellwood will be in tough. Big reason why Steve Sullivan and Mike Johnson got pushed out of town.

. . .dare I say Nathan Dempsy . .
The best thing that happened to him was leaving the Maple Leaf organization.
Take Michael Ryder for instance, he has a coach who has kept him around and been very supportive (and he has flourished because of it). Like life, the NHL tends to be a 'who you know' game- especailly to get your foot in the door at the next level (whatever that is - the AHL or NHL).

By all reports - tmlfans.ca ('home for beligerent leaf junkies") Pohl had a very good game tonight playing on a weaker line. He recorded a goal and an assist. Unfortunately Cal you might be right though . .

www.mapleleafs.com/images/pdf/2005_TRAINING_CAMP_SEPT_26.pdfI'm certain that there must be at least twenty other GM's besides myself following the John Pohl saga. The leafs have just made another round of cuts. Pohl is still playing with the big club. Maybe the word came down from upper management that he was to be given a serious shot - I did read something about Quinn lamenting over all the penalities and how because of this he was unable to asses guys like Pohl in 5 on 5 situations. So his staying around may have a little less to do with talent but a little more to do with not yet getting an opportunity for the organization to 'know' what they have in Pohl - a fourth line C, reliable callup, etc . .
