While it's not a deal per se, Marchant clearing waivers should have an impact in the BRHL.
He is a UFA after the season and while it's unlikely that he would be traded by Eric, he will likely be able to sign at a lower price than his current salary. Columbus has made it known that sending him to the minors is a last resort which means that Marchant will sit a number of games until a trade can be worked out. This will limit is on ice time as he won't be able to practice with either the Jackets or their AHL affiliate. Plus the fact that at this point no one knows where he's going to end up, so his ice time afterwards may or may not be less than what it was with the Jackets.
I forsee a fourth line player in the BRHL next season for Marchant and anything more than him signing here for a million would be a lot.

I think the best chance Columbus has at moving Marchant is to send him to the minors and recall him which will result in the BJ's having to pay half his salary for the next 3years. I don't see any team giving up anything of value for Marchant and without Columbus at least eating a portion of his salary if they know they can get him at half price sooner or later.

I think that if he clears, and goes to the minors then he must clear again before being called up. Furthermore, a team may claim him on the way back up in which case the Jackets are responsible for half of Marchant's salary.
Edmonton could use a hand down the middle, couldn't they? (Not meant as a dig). In the old NHL I'm sure the Leafs would not have batted an eye to pick up Todd Marchant.

In the old NHL Marchant would of never of been placed on Waivers some GM would of traded for him.

Agreed with Rob. I think the Jackets wouldn't have done the waivers thing and let him continue to play until he could have been traded. (Then again, under the old NHL, I don't think Fedorov would have been traded to begin with)

Bob Mckenzie seems to think that Marchant will be claimed on 're-entry' waivers.. which as stated, means Columbus is on the hook for half of Marchants remaining salary for the rest of the contract and takes the cap hit for it for the rest of the contract.

I think Marchant would be claimed on re-entry as well. However, the thing is that I don't think Columbus wants to attribute over a million dollars to the cap for a guy that won't play on their team. That's why I think that Marchant is more likely to sit on the non-active pro roster until he is traded.
If Marchant were to get sent to the minors he would play their for the remainder of the season, as it would be near impossible for the Jackets to trade him at that point (especially given the fact that many insiders believe that he would be claimed if the Jackets were on the hook for half his salary)

There's a better chance that I suit up for the Oilers than Marchant.....If you remember back, Lowe offerd him a salary that would ensure he was below the average NHL salary so he could get rid of him after that season. Shockingly Marchant had by far his top season that year, got a fat contract and reverted to his inept offensive ways.
It was a messy divorce, and Stone Hands Marchant won't be back in Oiltown again in this lifetime.

Oilers don't need Marchant anyways they already have an overpaid 3rd line center in Peca.
